PHILOSOPHY OF GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT
The Department of Geography is guided by the overall objectives of the Federal University of Technology, Minna to provide skilled and adequate manpower for the Universityand the global communityin its curricula for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Specifically, the Department aspires to produce applied geographers who must apply their skills to tackle the problemscaused by depleting resources for a growing world by offering degree options in applied remote sensing and meteorology. Fundamental to this problem is the application of geographical methods of studying the inter-relationship between the physical environment, the economy, and the nature of society within the context of changing situations at all levels fromthe local to the globalscale.
OBJECTIVES
Specifically the objectives of the programme in the Department of Geography may be summarized as follows:
a) To produce competent graduates in sub-disciplines relating to Meteorology and Remote Sensing Application and Environmental Management.
b) To encourage students to acquire knowledge and skills in Geography and in one or more of these specialised sub-disciplines.
c) To familiarize students with latest developments in the field with particular emphasis on research procedures for critical analysis, accurate judgment in their study of geographical phenomena and processes as well as using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to prepare models of a changing world.
